“Why was this oil not sold for three hundred days’ wages and given to the poor?”
Catholic churches still face that same kind of scrutiny today that Mary did 2000 years ago.
“Why all the smells and bells? Why so ostentatious?”
The simple answer: Catholic churches are meant to be havens of beauty in this world.
The architecture, the stained glass, the incense… it all lifts us toward something higher.
A lot of the time though, that beauty stops at the church doors. It doesn’t carry over to where people first encounter you today: online.
When I work with parishes, we always assess their photos. If they need more, I bring in a professional photographer to capture the beauty of a Sunday Mass.
These photos can we be used on their website, as well as bulletins, social media, print materials, etc.
Here are a few examples from two Catholic churches we worked with recently!

If you’re thinking about refreshing your parish website, I highly recommend going this route and investing in quality photography.
